Chuck Elliott Interview with Joe Cocker

In October, 1996 I had the opportunity to interview Joe Cocker at his home, the Mad Dog Ranch in Crawford, Colorado.  The interview was for a newspaper article I would be writing about him for the Montrose Daily Press.

We started out talking about his early influences, his breakthrough appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, and how the music of Ray Charles found him in Sheffield, England.   From there, we continued a 45 minute interview, but alas, my tape cut off at 30 minutes.

This interview was conducted just before his album “Organic” was released.

One thing I noticed early on about Joe was how expressive he was with his hands.

He lived in a beautiful home, tucked away in the mountains, and he loved it.

Talking to Joe was very easy, and I was taken by how ordinary this extraordinarily talented man was in person.
